Search what you saved by what it means

WHT.day searches every article and X post in your archive by meaning as well as by words. Type a subject and you get the saves that are about it — including the ones that describe it differently — then narrow by date, source or type and turn the results into a timeline.

The problem with keyword search

You remember what a story was about, not the exact words it used. Keyword search punishes that: search “drone attacks on oil” and you miss the post that said “refinery hit by UAVs”, the article about “strikes on energy infrastructure”, and the report that only named the refinery. The more you save, the more you lose to wording.

Search by meaning, with your words too

WHT.day reads what each save is about. When you search, it looks for saves whose meaning is close to what you asked for, and separately for saves that contain your words. The two are blended, so a save that matches both ways rises to the top and the closest matches come first.

Short searches get extra help. “Digital ID” on its own says little, so WHT.day first works out the subject you mean — digital identity systems, biometric checks, online age verification, digital currencies — and searches for that. In a real archive, that surfaced an age-verification rollout, a national digital-currency launch and a government data-sharing deal, none of which said “digital ID”. Results found only by meaning carry a small Related label so you can tell them apart.

Forgiving about wording, strict when you want it

In the default Broad mode, different forms of a word count as the same — “attacked”, “attacks” and “attacking” all match — and common words are ignored. Switch to Exact match when you need every word you typed, the way traditional search works. Quoted phrases always match exactly.

Filters and shortcuts

Use the Type, Date and Has-my-note controls under the search box, or type shortcuts straight into it. The box always shows exactly what is being searched, and the address bar keeps it, so a search can be bookmarked and repeated.

From results to a timeline

Search results show you the pieces; a timeline shows you the story. Press Build timeline from these results and WHT.day keeps the results that are really about your subject, drops the ones that only share a word, and lays them out by date with a line on what each one added. See a real timeline built from the search “AI safety”.

Every result leads back to the record

Each result shows the passage that matched, the day it is filed under and the original source. Open it to read the full text you saved, add a note, or build its timeline. Search covers everything in your archive — articles, X posts from the extension or from automatic bookmark sync, videos, images and notes — and it never searches the AI-written daily summaries, only what you actually saved.

Questions

Search, answered

What does searching by meaning mean?
WHT.day understands what each save is about, not just which words it contains. A search for “digital ID” also finds saves about age verification, biometric identification and central bank digital currencies, even when they never use the words “digital ID”.
What is the difference between Broad and Exact match?
Broad is the default: it finds saves by meaning and by your words, and treats different forms of a word (attacked, attacks, attacking) as the same. Exact match needs every word you typed, the way traditional search works.
How do I tell which results were found by meaning?
Results that match by meaning but do not contain your words carry a small Related label. Results that contain your words have the matching passage highlighted.
Can I filter results?
Yes. Use the Type, Date and Has-my-note controls, or type shortcuts such as from:@handle, site:reuters.com, type:post, after:2026-09 and before:2026-10-01 straight into the search box.
Can I turn search results into a timeline?
Yes. Press Build timeline from these results and WHT.day keeps the results that are really about your subject and lays them out by date. The same search always returns to the same saved timeline.
Does search include my X bookmarks?
Yes. Everything in your archive is searchable, including X posts saved with the extension or brought in by automatic bookmark sync.
