Is there a Twitter bookmark limit?

X does not publish a maximum number of bookmarks, and paying for Premium is not how you buy a higher one. What people hit instead is a list that stops loading, and posts that disappear because the original was deleted. Those are different problems.

Is there a bookmark limit on X?

Not one that X states. The bookmarks help explains how to save a post and where to find the list. It does not say “you may save this many”. The Premium page sells folders, edits and longer posts. It does not sell a larger bookmark quota. A free account and a paid account are not, on X’s own description, different sizes of bookmark jar.

You will still see precise numbers online. They come from people counting how far their own list scrolled, or how far the developer API returned, and the figures do not agree. Quoting one of them here would dress up an anecdote as a limit. If you need a number, X has not given you one. Plan as if the list is allowed to get long, and as if X is not obliged to show you all of it.

Why old bookmarks seem to vanish

Two different failures get called “my bookmarks disappeared”.

The first is the list itself. You scroll, older posts stop appearing, and it looks like a cap. Signing out and back in, or opening the list on the web instead of the app, sometimes brings them back — which means they were not deleted. When they stay hidden, there is no setting called “show the rest”. Exporters that read the page can only export what loaded, so they inherit the same wall. That is discussed in how to export bookmarks.

The second is a blank row. The bookmark is there. The post is not. That one is not a limit at all.

Deleted posts and suspended accounts

A bookmark points at the live post. If the author deletes it, the account is suspended, or the account becomes protected, X has no text left to display. The row cannot be repaired from your side. Unlike a limit, adding or removing other bookmarks does not bring it back, and upgrading to Premium does not bring it back.

This is the failure mode that actually loses information. A list that will not scroll is frustrating and sometimes temporary. A deleted post is permanent, unless you already kept a copy. Trying to view it after the fact is covered in how to see deleted tweets.

Loading old bookmarks

Practical steps, none of which raise a quota because there isn’t a published quota to raise:

Open x.com/i/bookmarks in a desktop browser and scroll there, not only in the app. Sign out and back in if the list looks truncated after a glitch. Check you are in the account that made the bookmarks — a second account has its own empty list. Do not delete recent bookmarks hoping to “make room”. If the older ones are merely hidden, deleting new ones does not unhide them, and if they were removed you have now removed more.

How to keep bookmarks forever

Forever is a property of a copy you hold, not of a pointer X holds. A screenshot, a PDF, or a full-text save made while the post was visible will still be there when the list will not scroll and when the author hits delete. Folders do not change that. They are paid organisation of the same pointers.

WHT.day stores the text of the post you choose to save and files it by date in your archive. It does not raise your X bookmark limit, because it does not use your X bookmark list as the storage. Are X bookmarks private? covers the short version of why the native list is the wrong place for anything you cannot afford to lose.

Questions

Bookmark limits, answered

Is there a limit to how many tweets you can bookmark?
X does not publish one. The Help pages describe how to bookmark, not a maximum. Premium is not sold as 'more bookmarks'. If a site quotes a hard cap — 800, 1,000, or anything else — that number is someone else's experience, not a rule from X.
Why can't I scroll back to my old bookmarks?
The list often stops loading older posts even though you did not delete them. Signing out and back in fixes some of these, which means they were glitches. When it persists, the posts can still be on the account and simply not shown. There is no documented way to force the full history to render.
What happens to a bookmark when the tweet is deleted?
The bookmark remains as a row and the content does not. X has nothing to show, and it will not hand you the text. The same is true if the account is suspended or switched to protected. A copy you saved elsewhere is the only copy.

Keep a copy

A limit you cannot look up is a bad place to store anything

Save the post with WHT.day while it is open. The text stays in your archive whether or not X will still scroll to it.
