Feature · X bookmark sync

Your X bookmarks, saved for good — automatically

Bookmark on X the way you already do. Connect your account once and WHT.day saves every bookmark into your archive with the full post text and media, filed on the day you saved it, and keeps it even if the post is later deleted.

Why bookmarks on X aren’t enough

A bookmark on X is a pointer, not a copy. When the author deletes the post, protects their account or is suspended, the bookmark leads nowhere. Bookmarks also pile up in one endless list with no dates you can browse, no way to see what else happened that day, and no export button. If you have ever gone looking for a post you know you saved, you know how that ends. are X bookmarks public or private covers the details.

How sync works

Connect once. From the Sync with X page, sign in to X and approve read-only access. WHT.day can read your profile, the posts you can see and your bookmarks; it cannot post, like or change anything.

Your history comes in first. Right after you connect, WHT.day imports your most recent bookmarks — up to 800, which is as far back as X lets any app read — and files each one on the day you saved it.

New bookmarks follow three times a day. At 10am, 5pm and 11:50pm WHT.day checks for new bookmarks and saves them, or you can press Sync now to bring them in straight away. Posts already in your archive are never duplicated.

What each synced bookmark keeps

The post’s full text, the author’s name and handle, the time it was posted, and the images and video attached to it — copied into your archive, not linked. The original link is kept too, so you can always open the post on X while it exists. If it stops existing, your copy is still there to read, search and cite.

Filed on the day you saved it

Every synced post lands on the day you saved it, next to the articles you saved that day.

Then put your bookmarks to work

Synced posts are part of your archive like everything else. Search them by meaning rather than exact words — see how search works — or pick any post and build a narrative timeline of the story it belongs to, alongside the articles you saved about the same events. A few months of bookmarks becomes a dated record of everything you followed.

Other ways to save posts

Sync is the hands-off way. You can also save any post the moment you read it with the WHT.day browser extension, or paste a post’s link into the app. For one-off copies without an account, our guides to saving tweets and exporting bookmarks compare the other options.

Questions

X bookmark sync, answered

How does WHT.day sync my X bookmarks?
You connect your X account once. WHT.day then imports your most recent bookmarks — up to 800, which is as far back as X allows — and checks for new bookmarks three times a day: 10am, 5pm and 11:50pm. Each one is saved with the full post text, author and media.
Which date is a synced bookmark filed under?
The day you saved it.
What happens if a post I bookmarked is deleted?
Your copy stays. WHT.day stores the post’s text and media when it is imported, so you can still read it after the original is deleted or the account is suspended. The original link is kept alongside it.
Can WHT.day post, like or change anything on my X account?
No. WHT.day asks X only for permission to read your profile, the posts you can see and your bookmarks. It cannot post, like, follow or change anything, and you can disconnect at any time from WHT.day or from your X settings.
Are my bookmark folders imported?
Your bookmarks are imported, but the folders they sit in on X are not. Instead, every bookmark is filed by date and searchable by meaning, and you can build a timeline of any topic across all of them.
Can I sync immediately instead of waiting for the next check?
Yes. The Sync with X page has a Sync now button that imports your newest bookmarks straight away.
